My Egyptian Queen and Korean King

There is only so much you can do in London in a day. Transport could be on strike, your bus might terminate 8 stops before your planned stop, or you simply don’t bike on the left side of the road – all of these conditions make moving around a bit of a mission. London is a city that takes time and perhaps it’s wiser to see it as an agglomeration of smaller towns. So today I decided to go back to Shoreditch (town).

On one of my last days in London, there are two things that I needed to do: use up some of my ClassPass credits and get my hair cut. It’s cheaper than back home.

After evaluating my options on ClassPass, I settled on the “Hydro Glass Skin Facial” at The Skin Co Spa just off Liverpool Street. The thing is, I’ve never done facials and there was not much to target but the Glass Skin treatment is pretty neutral in that it is designed to “achieve radiant, dewy skin (…) create a smooth, luminous, glass-like complexion.” However, the important thing was the esthetician that took care of my open pores. Her name is Iman and – apologies for the lack of a better term – but she is truly an Egyptian baddie. Beautiful green eyes, long lashes and luscious brown hair. She told me about her passion and knowledge of Thailand, having been there more times than she can count. Born and bred in London, Iman considers herself more of a city-girl, so consider that information for her recommended Thai itinerary. She told me to spend two days in Bangkok, as long as I can in Krabi, and finish off with Phuket. (As I’ve never been, I cannot vouch for her tips but if any Coquetas reader has Thai recommendations, let us know). She was also an avid anime and K-drama fan. I asked her what her favorite shows are and she excitedly wrote me down a list. The TV-reality show “Inferno” is a must-watch, “When Life Gives You Tangerines” is her all-time favorite, and “Dynamite Kiss” is her recent obsession. She was super cool, I learnt a lot and left with radiant and protected skin ready to get some Vitamin C from the rare sunrays London was offering on that January day.

Pursuing my pilgrimage through Shoreditch to Bethnal Green and back, I then stop for my haircut. My hairstylist was the same as my first one when arriving in London. It was truly a full-circle moment. Inhyeok took his time, carefully trimming the different parts. He’s quiet and he’s cute. At the end he took around 6 film (! it’s expensive) pictures of the haircut he just gave me. Maybe I like to think that he thought I was pretty. He’s my Korean saviour and now my layers are freshened up and my hair simply looks healthier. Thank you!

See you soon London xx
