Today I went to the hottest new cafe in LA, and best of all, it’s Venezuelan. It opened just seven weeks ago, and the line out the door clearly signals success.
I knew I was in the right spot as soon as I saw a crowd of millennial hipsters with wide rimmed glasses sitting on milk crates on the sidewalk. I was certain they were discussing their latest screenplay. I swore there was a hidden camera somewhere, but that’s just LA, I guess.
Chainsaw Cafe has the classic coffee shop staples with a Venezuelan twist. We tried the Café Quesillo and a not so Venezuelan strawberry matcha. Both were delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised that they were not too sweet.
You order at the front and then fight for a seat outside. We sat on rustic crates and stools along the sidewalk. The food was presented on a banana leaf. We ordered arepas domino, empanada de queso, and a perro caliente. The corn masa was crisply inspiring, and the hot dog was sauced up perfection. I’m not sure why Latin America has adopted the hot dog to the point that it has become a staple, but that story is for another day.
Anyways, Chainsaw is a fabulous cafe and has officially been Coquetas approved.
