This theme came about after speaking with someone that told me extremely good gossip: a certain famous musician’s girlfriend is a witch and that’s how she got with him. Allegedly, the girlfriend had been a fan of her current boyfriend; she did her spells and “magically” managed to get with him – bridging the ocean separating them. Coquetas, it wasn’t even a big-city meet-cute type of thing. Also my source is certified by their reliableness, that’s not the question.
Yet, something even more interesting happened a few months later. I was at a dinner, and we were talking about various obesssions, to which a friend – let’s call her B – said she had an amazing story that started sounding oddly familiar very fast. B has a friend whose friend was obsessed with an artist and she’s now dating him. Wide-eyed, I knew it could only be about that celeb-fan success story. And it was.
Apparently, the witch (apologies for the nickname, it’s all for clarity’s sake) had been posting her altar made for her celebrity crush on her private story. Her love shrine was somewhere in the middle of a forest. At first, her friends would just laugh it off, until the stories continued under freezing weather, the pine trees now covered in snow and the path turned into ice. They had an intervention to which she agreed she’d cease her witching activities. Until one day, about a week after her concession, she posts a screenshot of the random DM her crush sent her. She wasn’t noticed at a concert or anything, it was just this: a message sent by him – it was something like “What’s up” – and that’s all.
A few weeks in, he flies her out for one of his concerts in Europe. Based on my quick Google search, they’ve been going strong for 2 years now. Great for them. And she’s really pretty, she looks like a vampire. But what strikes me is the success factor of this whole story. So what are love spells? How do they work? And how can Coquetas provide you with the recipe to get yourself your celeb crush?

My research brings me to propose three main categories : the easy low budget DIY spells, self love spells, also called glamour magick (terminology I much prefer), and finally the “big,” time-consuming spells that often backfire.

Let’s begin with our first tier: the low budget DIY spells. It’s all in the title; they don’t cost much to cast, and you probably have the ingredients or objects at home already. Writing your name and your crush’s name on top of each other in opposite directions is a popular spell (I haven’t come across positive results from users, so I won’t go into details). Another Reddit user shares one spell where you take a piece of thread, cover it in your blood, and manifest your crush. Two weeks later, they got a boyfriend. Now, for this last example you might need a printer: you take a photo of your target, place it face down on a glass of water, and leave it in a cupboard in your bedroom, drawing them to you until you bring it back into the light. They’re all cost and time efficient, and usually aim at a specific person, yet at the same time, details on the spell were sparse (hence my lack of detailing). Also, these types of spells appear to cater to high schoolers mostly, and TikTok comment threads prove they often forget about it days later.

Then comes glamour magick, the second pillar in my love spell research. Glamour magick isn’t about changing your physical appearance, but rather amplifying or drawing out certain characteristics you already hold to attract others. What’s interesting is the etymology of the word glamour which will help us understand why it’s the most important pillar in all of this conversation. Originating as an alteration of the word grammar, referencing the study of literature in classical Greek and Latin antiquity, in the medieval period, Latin grammatica shifted to include all fields of learning. As most of the European population at that time were illiterate, all written knowledge was inaccessible to them, putting magic and astrology in the same section of grammatica. Then in the early 1700s, the Scots modified the word grammar into glamer or glamour, directly meaning a “magic spell.” By 1840, Sir Walter Scott popularised glamour’s meaning of “alluring charm” or “magical beauty” in English literature, shifting away from the pure magic spell.
So if glamour originates as a form of knowledge, what can it teach us about the powers we all possess within us? If love spells are not necessarily the favoured method in finding true love, glam spells carry a special place in the r/Witchcraft community. One user explains their switch from purely love spells to glam: “When I do glamour magik tho??? oouuuu chiiile the way ppl go out of their way to help me.” An easy ritual they share calls for pouring jezbel root oil on a pink candle, playing some music, and doing your makeup while the candle burns. The focus is basically on yourself, instead of a specific or idealised target. Magnetism dominates and thus draws in attention.

Finally, let us go back to the crux of our story, which is none other than the powerful, big love spell. If keeping and dedicating an altar to your crush means getting with him after a certain time, what can Reddit tell us about those? Well, apparently not that much. Whilst researching those elaborate and passion-filled spells, I couldn’t put my finger on a clear recipe or routine to follow. What I can say, though, is that the witches using the big, heavyily time-consuming rituals have their target, either an ex, an ultimate crush, or a stranger. Users also often warn about backfires involving major obsessions. And if we were to imagine our original witch’s love altar– or love shrine – we could find it in a silent, peaceful place, perhaps. At this point it’s all speculation based on my research, I truly wish I could provide you all with more details on. Perhaps, I should cast a spell to get the full gossip in all its details.
All in all, this by no means is an official guide, but a mere attempt at exploring wizardry through gossip. Glam spells appear as the (obvious) best option, and results seem more promising and long-standing, because who needs a bf/gf/partner when you have yourself first, right? In case you decide to try something out by yourself, Coquetas are not responsible for any of the results. And always do a protection spell. Remember.

P.S. Email us your celebrity crush you’d cast a love spell on. Mine is already bewitched unfortunately.
